I have about a million things I need to be doing right now, but this wandering mind of mine will not be able to focus on anything until I let all it’s wanderings out. Lucky you- you get to read them! I have been thinking a lot about the new year, new plans, new directions- we all have I am sure. One of the things I am learning is that God is a God of order. We know this, but what I think we need to understand is that God is a God of order; He is not the creator of chaos- the enemy is. Chaos throws us off our path, the path of order that God gives us each new day. His faithfulness is new, every morning!
All through the Bible God lays down order. From the beginning, all the way to the order in which He will pour out His Wrath upon all mankind. He has written down instructions on how to keep order in our everyday lives. Now, what I also want to point out is that God also wants us to lay that order down before Him. If it is His Will for the plans of the day to come to pass, He will make them happen. James reminds us of this truth when He wrote,
“Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” James 4:13-15 (ESV)
We bring order to our lives and then we lay that order at the Lord’s feet. Trusting and knowing that He has the ultimate say about the order our day will go. This gives my mind great rest. I know that no matter what I have planned, no matter what things need to get done, if I just lay them at His feet and trust that He has already ordered this day for me, there is no room for chaos. Chaos is not of God.
How do I bring order into my daily life? You start within. Look inside yourself. What areas of your life do you have the most chaos in? That’s where you start. I love my husband- he is amazing, and loving, and has a heart for God that encourages me every single day- but….he is a little disorderly. I am a person of order. I like organization. I like everything to have a place and everything to be in its place. His view on order is not the same as mine; so more often than not it creates chaos in our lives. But God also gives us grace. Grace to handle whatever chaos the enemy tries to throw our way.
What the Lord is showing me is that there is a simple solution to it all. Order. Simply put. Make a plan. I started with Monday and created a daily schedule for myself. Not only am I a housewife, but my husband and I are also running a roofing business. I have many opportunities for chaos to enter my life. But, if I do as the Lord has shown me, then chaos will have no place in my life again. Knowing, that no matter what happens, God has already planned out the day for me. I can be glad and rejoice in it- for it is a Day that He has Made. (Psalm 118:24)
James tells us that it is okay to make plans- there is nothing wrong with putting a little order into our lives. However, discipline is learned, not earned. You have to put in the effort, you have to make a choice to stick with it; you have to have faith with works- not just faith, and not just works. Show your faith, my friends, by your works. And give it all to God. James says that the boasting that happens is when we fail to allow God to be the ultimate planner and conductor of our lives. “A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.” Proverbs 16:9
Find the areas in your life that are in chaos. Start with a prayer; God will give you wisdom and He will direct your steps. Chaos is not of God. Discipline is not earned, it is learned. You start putting discipline into your day and God will reward you with more grace. Remember these things, and may God give you strength to overcome. Amen
